Val d’Isere is a beautiful ski village in the Tarentaise Valley in south-eastern France, not far from the Italian border. Originally a farming community, the village with its many traditional stone, slate and wood buildings and modern ski facilities has evolved into one of France’s best known and loved ‘ski resorts’.
Together with the commune of Tignes nearby, Val d’Isere forms part of the excellent Espace Killy ski area which boasts over 300km of prepared slopes. These two villages are close enough that skiing from one to the other for lunch or a mid-afternoon snack is very doable.
Our hotel of choice in Val d’Isere is the 4 Trident (Star) Club Med Val d’Isere. Built in the traditional alpine style with lots of wood and raw stone, this popular All-Inclusive resort also has a unique 5 Star ‘luxury space’ called Le Refuge.
