This charming little village is located near the Italian/French border in the northwest Piedmont region. For many years Pragelato remained something of hidden gem, but the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin changed all that. Pragetalo hosted the ski jumping and some Nordic skiing events which not only brought big investment in facilities but also worldwide publicity.
The local village ski area is somewhat limited but very adequate for beginners. However, the real fun starts on the slopes of the extensive Via Lattea (aka Milky Way) ski area which connects the villages of Sestriere (2035m), Sauze d’Oulx (1509m), Oulx, Sansicario (1700m), Cesana (1350m), Pragelato (1518m) , Claviere (1760m) as well as Montgenèvre (1850m) just over the border in France.
The relatively new 4 Trident (Star) Club Med Pragelato Vialattea resort is our top hotel pick in the area. Made up of multiple traditional wooden chalet style dwellings, this is more of a village than a hotel, which is just one of the reasons for its popularity, I suspect. It is also located 50m from the Pattemouche-Anfiteatro cable car lift station which is the main link to the rest of the Via Lattea.

| Snow & Fun Parks: | There are numerous terrain/snow parks within the Via Lattea ski area at Sestrière, Montgenèvre, Sauze d’Oulx and Sansicario. Sestrière Snow Park is about 300m long and accessed via two tow lifts. It offers two slopestyle lines with kickers of various difficulty as well as a jib line with boxes and rails. Snow Park Montgenèvre offers two lines of about 500m. There are suitable elements for both beginners and advanced riders including boxes and kickers. |
