Breuil-Cervinia – or just Cervinia – is a high-altitude village located in the Aosta Valley on the Swiss-Italian border and overlooked by the majestic Matterhorn Mountain.
Named after the Italian moniker for the Matterhorn, Monte Cervino, Cervinia’s visitors enjoy several unique attributes: Skiing one of the largest ski areas in Europe from one of the highest villages in Europe means ideal snow-sure conditions for most of the usually long ski seasons. And international skiing in the huge Zermatt/Breuil-Cervinia/Valtournenche ski area which links Cervinia to its famous and expensive Swiss neighbour, the village of Zermatt just across the border.
The options for beginner and intermediate skiers are extensive with roughly 75 km and 220 km of prepared slopes available to them. More advanced skiers may feel a little limited on the Cervinia side of the ski area but are well catered for on the larger number of Zermatt slopes. Fortunately, ski passes for the whole domain are significantly cheaper in Cervinia than Zermatt.
Our hotel choice in Cervinia is the 4 Trident (Star) Club Med Cervinia which is actually two hotels in one. The Cristallo and Cristallino are just 50m apart and connected by an indoor passageway.
